Historically the name "Yambu" is generally known to Kathmandu city by the Tibetans in Tibet. Tamangs / Yolmos / Sherpas and the Himalayan region of Nepal. Different legends are associated with the history itself, but Yambu means "The Northern Land". Which are now what we known as Kathmandu city. It is clearly depicted in the history of Tibet / Tamangs and the history of Himalayan regions since 1500 yrs ago.
